Muscat, Sultanate of Oman — June 23 2026. 

SalamAir, Oman’s low-cost carrier, marked the launch of its new Muscat–Vienna route with a special ceremony held in Muscat on 23 June 2026, ahead of the departure of the inaugural flight to Vienna, Austria, scheduled for 24 June. The new service represents a significant milestone in the airline’s continued expansion into Europe and establishes the first and only non-stop air link between Oman and Austria.  The inaugural flight was celebrated during a special ceremony held at Muscat International Airport under the patronage of His Excellency Christoph Ceská, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the Sultanate of Oman. The event was attended by senior representatives from SalamAir, Oman Airports, the Civil Aviation Authority, government entities, tourism stakeholders, and media representatives.  The gathering highlighted the significance of the new route in further enhancing connectivity between Oman and Austria and supporting closer economic and tourism cooperation between the two countries.   Operating three flights weekly, the new service provides travellers with the only direct connection between Oman and Austria, offering a convenient and affordable travel option between Muscat and Vienna. The route expands SalamAir’s European network while solidifying Muscat’s position as a strategic gateway linking Europe with the Gulf region, Asia, and East Africa.  Nasser Al Shgarji, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Oman Airports, said: "This new route enhances Muscat International Airport’s connectivity with Europe and supports Oman’s position as an attractive destination for international visitors. It also supports Oman Airports’ strategy to expand direct connectivity with key global markets, boosting Muscat’s role as a regional aviation hub which feeds into contributing to the Sultanate’s tourism growth, economic diversification, and the objectives of Oman Vision 2040."

The inaugural flight will be welcomed upon its arrival at Vienna Airport on 24^th June 2026 by His Excellency Yousef bin Ahmed Al Jabri, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Austria, and Julian Jäger, Joint Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Vienna Airport, marking the commencement of the first direct air service between the two capitals.
